Monteith s Greymouth brewery will not close, instead gifted to the district

A West Coast institution has been saved from permanent closure.
In November last year DB Breweries announced it was planning to end its Monteith s brewing operation in Greymouth.
The Greymouth brewery dates back to 1868; Monteith s was founded on the Coast.
However, the Grey District Council says an agreement has been reached where the bottling plant will be handed back to the district.

Read More Hopefully we can create some new opp for the region out of it. We are working with some local craft brewers to work out how we can best utilise this resource so there s some excitement there and definitely some opportunity.

She had been sent to get an interview and she would get it, but not without some help. Her assignment: talk to the Black minister, civil rights leader and 1964 Nobel Peace Prize winner – Martin Luther King, Jr. – who had just flown into Kansas City.
“I saw him in the airport corridor,” said Helen Gray, the first Black woman hired as a reporter by the Kansas City Star-Times.

When Sheree R. was 5 years old, her grandpa would take her to Kelly’s Westport Inn for a cold Coca-Cola.
Her grandpa was a regular there.
“Good memories like that probably influenced my career choice of bartender/server/cook through most of my work-life so far,” she said.
Sheree, who preferred to remain anonymous, is from Kansas City and worked in Westport throughout the ‘90s. This is why she asked Flatland to find the oldest photo that exists of Kelly’s.
THE FORMER Valhalla Brewery premises in Unst could be transformed into a launch control hub for Shetland Space Centre.
Planning permission has now been sought to turn the building at Saxa Vord into a technical operations centre for satellite launches.
Planning applications have been submitted for the whole space centre project, marking a significant milestone.

One other application which is currently public on Shetland Islands Council’s planning website is for a new road at Northdale.
The former brewery building – located opposite the Shetland Reel distillery – was originally built as part of the RAF facility at Saxa Vord.
